Due to recent directives from Quebec government, Galerie B-312 temporarily suspends its activities. The gallery will be closed to the public from March 17, 2020 for an indefinite period.

Mathieu Lévesque holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in visual and media arts from UQAM. Through his pictorial practice, he approaches painting as a concrete and material object from which he enjoys disorganizing the conventional aspects of elaboration and components to reveal its material dimensions, the realization traces as well as the space. His work has been exhibited in individual and group exhibitions such as Horizons - This is the Place (Galerie Trois Points, 2018), Shapé (Maison de la culture Janine-Sutto, 2019), Se mettre à l'œuvre (Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, 2016) and 2G4E (Regart, centre d'artistes en art actuel, 2016).

If some painter's actions are underlying their aesthetic and conceptual intentions, they are also determined by practical and material factors. Particular and recurring gestures, generators of styles, palettes and subsequently of the corpus of works, are often the result of a succession of habits, tics even errors. It's in this perspective that the most recent Mathieu Lévesque's research is oriented around this ambiguity between the painter's know-how and laissez-faire. While it's common in the pictorial practice to repaint and reject paintings, Mathieu Lévesque dwells on this precis action radicality which for him underlines the framework's limits and accentuates materiality.
