PART II

Conversations Montréal | Lyon was initiated by curators Marthe Carrier and Chloé Grondeau and spearheaded by Galerie B-312 in Montreal. It has since become an avenue of exchange between Lyon and Montreal, with a particular emphasis on showcasing the local art scene in each city.

LAND CLAIM
Thomas Kneubühler addresses the problem of mining exploitation in the northern region of Quebec. By photographing the headquarters of these companies based in Switzerland while their operating site is in Quebec, he questions the controversial issue of land ownership.

Valérie Kolakis' practice explores architecture in relation to issues of migration, displacement and change. More specifically, it is a conceptual study of the identity construction and the constraints imposed by society and its physical spaces.

The first public presentation of this work was conceived as an endless piece. Knitwork is built from unknitted clothes that the artist re-knits. Each artifact becomes the visual witness of the passage of time, work, and the bodies that carried them.

Japanada

Yoshiaki Kaihatsu’s installation continues his longstanding material approach that works with waste or garbage as construction material. He has recently been producing environments constructed and altered by the accumulation of Styrofoam packing material.

Domestic noises

Doris Kuwert brings these domestic objects to life to create peculiar choreographies. Placed on smooth and polished surfaces, the objects move, interact, and bunch together under the force of magnets attached to motors placed under each of the surfaces.

This installation consists mainly of a long piece of knitting called Knitwork. Presented for the first time, this piece of knitwork, which so far extends over a surface area of 27 metres, is only a transitional stage since this project will continue beyond its presentation.
