On July 5, 2006, as part of the Beyrouth-Montréal, Vue double project, Espace SD in Beirut presented an evening of videotapes by Quebec artists1. A week later, war broke out. For a little over a month, all eyes turn to Lebanon. The country is devastated. -Until recently, we didn't know if we would be able to release this series of videotapes of Lebanese artists on our calendar. Under the circumstances, strangely enough, it suddenly took on very little and a lot of importance. Therefore, Galerie B-312 is very pleased to present this series of videos in the small room. -Through this programme, curators Ricardo Mbarak and Wadih Safieddine have focused on works that address the question of identity. "The selection shows several positions of artists who privilege in their works criteria related to their environment. This is the Lebanese society of today, where religion, politics, war and the post-war period continue to affect the issue of identity and belonging to Lebanon.” -Tapes with a total duration of 76 minutes are streamed throughout the exhibition.

1.The program for this evening was conceived by Marthe Carrier, Frédéric Lavoie and Jacko Restikian. You can get more information about this event on the gallery's website.
