Elizabeth Lima—Munden-Dixon/Bennett/Foisy
Baie vitrée
A PRESENTATION BY TOUR DE BRAS
IN CONCERT AT GALERIE B-312
Elizabeth Lima is an improviser, clarinetist, vocalist, composer and performer in a variety of genres. Her performances create an encounter between traditional and exploratory instrumental techniques combined with performative and theatrical elements. She performs as a soloist as well as with the Montreal-based ensembles Land of Kush by Sam Shalabi (Constellation Records) and Joker: Chorale bruitiste under the direction of Joane Hétu (DAME). She is co-founder of the performance duo Riot Pousse with Sarah Albu, the duo Porketche with Gabriel Dharmoo (DAME), the experimental vocal ensemble Phth and Rat Flipper with Lori Freedman, Andrea Young and Julie Houle.
Adrianne Munden-Dixon is a violinist, improviser, and composer living in Montreal and New York. She grew up playing notated and improvised music in Savannah, Georgia, and still put live performances in and between those mediums as a solo and chamber musician. She is a founding member of Desdemona and has recently worked with the JACK Quartet, Cassie Wieland, Phong Tran, Raphaël Foisy-Couture, Leo Chang, and more. Her first self-released EP patterns and cycles was described as “bright, colorful violin improvisations, each a compact vision” (The Road to Sound).
Ben Bennett is a Philadelphia-based percussionist. He usually plays a compact pile of self-made drums, stretched membranes, and other objects which are continually rearranged in the course of playing, and sounded with techniques of the hit, rub, and blow varieties. A branching path of musical de-materialization has led to other forms of performance, including self-vitiating monologues, and the long and repetitive YouTube series, Sitting and Smiling, and Walking and Talking. His work tends toward themes of pointlessness, paradox, and stupidity.
Raphaël Foisy-Couture improvises, and his approach is the one of a dynamic dilettante driven by an excess of enthusiasm. He plays (double) bass, sometimes electronics and more recently a lot of trumpet. As a former member of the collective La Passe and co-organizer of the series Mardis Spaghetti, Baie-Vitrée and Mardis Tous Croches (2014-2016), he has organized hundreds of concerts for musicians from around the world. He has released albums on Notice, HAVN, Rara Avis and Arachnidisc. He is also the founder and director of the Small Scale Music label.
In partnership with Tour de Bras, Galerie B-312 is pleased to host the Baie Vitrée event, a sporadic series of improvised music and sound art programmed by musicians Philippe Lauzier and Éric Normand.
