PEINTURE DE LUXE

Organized in 1994 by Julie Turcotte, the Échangees Exhibition presented in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Chicoutimi was intended to be a place for young artists and art historians to meet and exchange ideas. A catalogue accompanied the project, featuring the pictorial works of Christian Dunberry, Louise Isabelle, Éric ladouceur, Pascal Léveillé and Christian Parent.
Over the past year, new questions have emerged among these artists about the very concept of painting, its identity, its specificity, its nobility and its flexibility. Renamed Peinture de luxe, the project becomes for these artists a way to explore, while having fun, the different avenues of the medium, thus going beyond its traditional framework of experimentation. The recent works brought together here testify to a painting that manifests itself in cohabitation with photography, video, computer-generated images, installation and object. The artists have offered themselves the opportunity to discover different fields of visual experimentation, flirting with theatricality, interior decoration, recuperation, even omitting the use of brush and acrylic.
