Tonight, December 21, 2023, at 10:27 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, we celebrate the winter solstice, the tipping point at which the Sun pauses before moving off in the opposite direction. In Latin, solstice, solstitium, means both the Sun, sol, and the pause, sistere, stitium. This is our shortest day of light. It's also the day when long days return. A new beginning.
In this tumultuous era of our humanity, let's hope for full days celebrating the brilliance of life.
