THE ARTISTS
naakita feldman-kiss is a media art and performance artist who lives and works in Toronto. Her practice focuses on the impact of technology on social interactions, sharing culture and different forms of oral tradition. Her most recent works have been presented in New York (MoMA PS1, 2012), Montréal (Eastern Bloc, 2015) and Toronto (YTB Gallery, 2015). Her written work and critical reviews have been published in KAPSULA and Queer Codes, as well as in various print and online publications.

Joe Hamilton lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. He uses technology and collects images in order to create complex and intriguing compositions, working directly on or offline. His recent works question the collective notions of environment and natural space in an increasingly networked society. Hamilton holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Tasmania (Adelaide, Australia) and a Master's degree from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Melbourne, Australia). His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Istanbul (The Moving Museum, 2014), Vienna (Austrian Film Museum, 2014), Düsseldorf (Kunsthalle, 2015) and New York (New Museum, 2015).

Hou I-Ting currently lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan. In her work, she mainly exploits digital images and video art while exploring the possibilities offered by other mediums. Her works often evoke the human body as it is represented in our contemporary society. She is studying the ways in which technology and digital devices alter the functions of the body, space and everyday life. Hou studied at Taipei National University of the Arts (Taiwan) and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Tainan National University of the Arts (Taiwan). Among her most recent exhibitions, the artist has presented her work in Minneapolis (Ketherine E. Nash Gallery, 2015), Taipei (Taipei Fine Arts Museum, 2015) and Muskegon (Muskegon Museum of Art, 2014).

Brianna Lowe is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Toronto. Her practice focuses on the space represented through various digital media — three-dimensional animation, digital collage and video — on the resulting experience and its different interpretations. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design (Toronto, Canada) and a Certificate in Video Game Design from George Brown College (Toronto, Canada). Lowe has exhibited in Toronto (Whippersnapper Gallery, 2015), Denver (Denver Digerati, 2013) and online (The Wrong Biennial, 2013).

Corinne Beaumier is an emerging artist and curator who lives and works in Montréal. Her practice orbits mainly around her origins, family and international adoption. Her more recent work highlights her personal issues with respect to adoption in a socio-political context. Focusing on video and photography, the artist combines drama and humor to narrate a story full of affection and discomfort. Beaumier holds a BA in Fine Arts from Concordia University (Montréal, Canada) and has exhibited in Montréal (Z Art Space, 2014). In 2015, she served as coordinator for L'Abattoir (Montreal, 2015), a public art critic session, and participated in a documentary residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts (Florida, USA).

Fannie Gadouas is an emerging artist and curator based in Montréal. Her practice explores the issues of female identity and experience. In 2015, she participated in the FCC residency (Toronto, Canada) where she was able to develop her critical point of view and experience collaborative work. The artist's work has been published and presented at several exhibitions, most recently in Montréal (FOFA Gallery and Lilian Rodriguez, 2016). Gadouas obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University (Montrmal, Canada) where she also held the position of Art Matters Festival Coordinator in 2016. She currently works as a co-coordinator of the research group Post Image Cluster at Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology in Montréal.

In recent years, Galerie B-312 has been offering its space during the summer months as a studio, for a residency or research project. Artists Jean-Pierre Gauthier and Isabelle Guimond were the first to benefit from this new initiative. This summer, Galerie B-312 is very happy to welcome Les Territoires artist-run centre for an exhibition. Chercher des personnes, des lieux ou d’autres choses brings together four emerging artists from outside Québec. The curatorship is provided by Corinne Beaumier and Fannie Gadouas.—Les Territoires' mandate is to enable emerging artists to develop their careers through exhibitions and various mediation and mentoring activities to facilitate their integration into the community: current art and its market. The centre, now evolving in a nomadic way, continues its activities by seeking to create new partnerships and hopes to innovate in the way of supporting emerging practices.—Chercher des personnes, des lieux ou d’autres choses (1) takes a look at the influence of web platforms on social and spatial architecture. Heirs to the 21st century digital revolution, some of the new media artists exploit or refer to Google Maps, Google Earth, Craigslist and social networking sites or use search engines in their process. Neither optimistic nor pessimistic about these technologies whose use is often criticized, the exhibition acts rather as a statement of the anxieties they evoke as much as the opportunities they open. The multiplication of social connections, the infinite field of public expression and images on the web present these paradoxical characteristics of freedom and suffocation, enlargement and shrinkage. Undeniably from the N generation, also called the net generation in the United States, the international and Canadian artists selected for this exhibition are well aware of the time they live in and the tools with which they have evolved.
