Philippe Chabot

Philippe Chabot lives and works in Montréal. Through sculpture, painting and installation, he focuses on the process aspect of the creative work, paying particular attention to materials. He is interested in notions of progress, order and chaos, crossing with absurdity and uncertainty to create systems whose mechanics lead to object transformation and space deconstruction. He is currently completing a Master’s degree at UQAM under the direction of Jean-Pierre Gilbert. His work has been presented in several galleries in Québec and Canada.
OPENING ON FRIDAY, MARCH 16 AT 5:30 PM
Both painter and sculptor, Philippe Chabot reflects on the deconstruction of the medium, matter and subject through time and space. Initially through portraits, then more recently using mechanical motifs, he transforms the subject into visual games and optical effects to reach a perspective both figurative and abstract. In the exhibition Mécanismes, the artist uses detailed technical drawings of automotive and aerospace engines as a starting point. He documents, studies, decomposes and recomposes the engines to explore the possibilities.
