AS PART OF
NIMALS AND CHILDREN

For three days Suzanne Joly will wander the streets of Montreal with a live chicken. The only determining factors for her trajectory through the city will be meetings made with friends, to spend some time with her around, in front of or near their homes. On the afternoon of Saturday October 10, the artist and her chicken will be visiting Galerie B-312 and the surrounding downtown area. The incongrous presence of a farm animal in the city coupled with the unpredictable behaviour and possible interactions of the chicken in this new environment will undoubtedly raise questions about our experience of the lived moment, public propriety and of our understanding of territory.

Animals and Children is a series that brings together performances, videos and installations throughout the spring and fall of 2009. The artworks presented attempt to re-direct social behaviours and assumptions about human nature by playing with becoming other than human or sharing control with children or animals. The artists included in this series create their work from an embodied viewpoint; the work does not distance itself from the subject through memory or fantasy, but physically links itself with the particular other.
