Jean-Pierre Gauthier has been present in the contemporary art scene since the mid-1990s. He pursues a hybrid approach integrating visual arts, sound and kinetic art. His installations have been showcased across Canada, the United States, South America, Europe and Asia. A prominent figure in Canadian media arts, his work has been shown at several digital arts events, including Transmediale (Berlin, 2006), Electrohype (Lund, 2006), Tonspur (Vienna, 2010), FILE (Sao Paulo, 2012) International Triennial of New Media Art (Beijing, 2014). In 2011, Village Voice considered its exhibition at the Jack Shainman Gallery as one of the top ten of the year in New York. Winner of the Sobey Prize in 2004, he is also a recipient of the 2006 Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award and the 2012 Louis Comtois Award. The artist is represented by the Jack Shainman Gallery (New York).

To conclude this project, this Saturday, October 4 we invite you to a double event: a sound performance followed by a book launch. Join us for this festive occasion! MsoNormal Starting at 5:30 pm, Jean-Pierre Gauthier will give a performance employing objects his installation and other pre-recorded sequences. This short presentation will be followed by the launch of an extraordinary publication produced as part of the Prix Louis-Comtois. Halfway between the art object, the artifact and the documentary project, this publication on a USB key will include a video recording of the installation, audio sequences, or the nineteen sound compositions of l’orchestre à géométrie variable and a text by Michel F Côté. Set in unique limited edition cases, this USB key will be like a sculpture-book-object-to-use.
