As part of its exchange project between artist-run centres, Galerie B-312 enthusiastically welcomes the Artcite gallery in Windsor, Ontario. The latter, along with galleries Sans Nom, Eastern Edge and Eye Level, in turn welcomes the artists of our centre and the exhibition Diversité et rapprochements.
Under the title Site/Unseen, the works of the 9 artists selected by Artcite question, each in their own way, the notion of identity. Concerned by the geographic location of Windsor (Canada's southernmost border city near Detroit, Michigan's largest city), the artists' practices are part of an incessant redefinition of the meaning of space and place. This exhibition brings together works that are as diverse in their choice of medium (photography, video installation, manipulated found objects, etc.) as they are in the multiple trends and preoccupations of contemporary art that animate them.
Influenced by the particular condition of southern Ontario, a world in between, the artists take on the task of defining the essence of place in a quest through the invisibility produced by duality. Nine glimpses into the problematic of hybrid "in-between" space, while building bridges through the universal nature of the questioning.
